I keep getting hurt by someone in the church.
My Question
I keep getting hurt by someone in the church.
Word of Life
It is heartbreaking to hear that you are being hurt by someone in the church. The church, as a community of believers who love God and serve one another, can sometimes become a place where human weaknesses cause pain. Even in such experiences, I pray that you may find God’s guidance and comfort.
First, it is important to turn to God in prayer, opening your heart to Him and seeking His comfort and wisdom. As the Bible says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7, KJV). You can entrust your worries and wounds to God and trust in His care.
Additionally, making an effort to improve the relationship or resolve the issue with that person could be a way forward. Jesus teaches in Matthew 18:15, “Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother” (KJV). Following this teaching, you might find an opportunity to resolve misunderstandings and reconcile through honest dialogue with the individual.
Lastly, sharing your concerns with other members of the faith community and seeking their prayers and advice can be greatly helpful. Instead of bearing everything alone, it is important to share burdens within the fellowship of believers.
May God heal your heart and bring peace and restoration to the wounded places. I pray that you always find peace in God’s love.
Biblical Commentary
Matthew 18:15 (KJV)
“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.”
This verse reflects Jesus’ teaching to His disciples on resolving sins and conflicts among brothers. Jesus emphasizes addressing issues privately first, giving the other person an opportunity for correction without public embarrassment. If the person listens and accepts the correction, it signifies reconciliation and strengthens spiritual bonds within the family of faith. This approach fosters forgiveness and reconciliation within the church community, maintaining peace and unity.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for granting us wisdom and love each day. Lord, I lift up my wounded heart to You as I continue to be hurt by someone in the church. Through Matthew 18:15, You have taught us to love our brothers and address conflicts with wisdom. Help me to hold onto this teaching and give me courage and wisdom to restore my relationship with that person.
Heal my heart, Lord, and help Your love shine through my interactions with that individual. Grant me understanding of their shortcomings and a heart filled with love to embrace them. I ask for Your grace to guide us toward reconciliation so that Your love may be revealed through our relationship.
I pray this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
